Dear SUA Community,
On Wednesday of last week I had the wonderful opportunity to accompany the SUA State Champion volleyball team to the Ohio Statehouse for recognition from the Ohio House and Senate. It was such an honor to see the team and coaches be recognized for their hard work and the tremendous accomplishment of winning the state championship.
In addition to lots of photos and congratulations, our group toured the Statehouse, had time for informal conversation with a representative’s Intern, and observed a General Assembly. I have had my share of Ohio history and government classes, but it was a whole different experience to see these topics in action. We were able to see the House vote on and approve a Bill. A Representative talked to us about how the voting process takes place and even shared how some reps conveniently go to the bathroom or skip out of the more controversial votes while others have snacks in their desk to make certain that they are always there for the vote. He talked to us about the role of the government in assuring the safety of its citizenship. We learned about Page and Intern jobs in the Statehouse. We even witnessed this Clerk who was a super fast reader: his job was to read the full titles of the resolutions and bills at breakneck speed. And, all along, I kept thinking about how great it was for me to learn in this experiential way. I started getting really excited about how all of our students - with the exception of the Class of 2025! - will have experiential learning opportunities in the minimesters next year.
A whole team, headed by Mrs. Grayson, have been working hard to match students’ minimester preferences with placements in the minimester courses. Just before Christmas break, we asked students to indicate their top seven preferences for the December and May minimester. I am pleased to share that every single student was able to be placed in one of their preferences. These minimester placements will be shared with students this week via email. Our counseling team will hold individual schedule advising sessions in the month ahead, and having these minimester placements will allow students to incorporate them into their academic goals and plans for '25-'26.
In regards to next year, please see the article in the Bulletin with more details about the enrollment contracts that are due before March 1. That enrollment contract, along with the tuition deposit due by March 15, secures your daughter’s spot for next school year.
One additional calendar item: Friday, February 21, is the much anticipated Winter Formal that all grades may attend. Please note that we will run a Bulldog schedule on that day, meaning that classes will start at 8 am with a 2 pm early dismissal. This early dismissal allows the girls a little extra time before the dance so that all of the plans and prep can happen outside of the school day.
Go Bulldogs!
