Dear SUA Community,

If you were lucky enough to know Alicia Tidwell, you know what a special person and gift she was to our students and school.  She loved our students and was always supportive of the young women that they are becoming.  We will miss her tremendously and are better because of her time with us. This week our faith and sisterhood has been a source of strength and comfort. The students’ care for each other during challenging times is a reflection of God’s love, their love for Alicia, and the sisterhood that we have at SUA.  Please take time to read Lelia’s letter in the Parent Bulletin that shares much more about Alicia’s life and impact on SUA.

A theme in Alicia’s life was service to others.  She would have been pleased by the report that we received today about SUA’s community service impact and progress towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in the 2024-2025 school year.  Here are some highlights worth celebrating:

  • SUA students participated in 1,186 activities totaling 3,734 service hours.
  • The estimated community impact value of this service is $116,440.
  • Twenty SUA students won national awards in partnership with the United Nations Association:  17 awardees had 30 hours of service in 4 activities, 2 awardees had 60 hours of service in 8 activities, and 1 awardees had 100 hours of service in 12 activities.
  • Fifty-three students were recognized as state honorees.
  • Our highest areas of impact in the UN Sustainable Development Goals were noted in the areas of Good Health and Well-being, Quality Education, No Poverty, Reduced Inequalities, Sustainable Cities and Communities, and Zero Hunger.

We also want to congratulate Laurel Fiorelli, our Community Service Learning Coordinator.  Laurel was honored as a 2025 Civic Learning Week All-Star with special recognition for leading the Student Outreach Services and Bulldog Tutoring Buddies.

Service is one of our core Ursuline values, and we are so proud of the students who address local and global needs through their volunteerism and sharing of their own personal gifts.  We are grateful to Laurel Fiorelli - as well as many other adults in our community - who support our students’ service learning.  If your daughter is looking for a way to serve, please have her get in touch with Laurel Fiorelli to explore opportunities.

Go Bulldogs!

Kathy
