Dear SUA Community,

I think we might all remember a similar moment as young children when we learned that Easter is the most important event in our Catholic faith - even more so than Christmas.  As a child, that almost seemed impossible to be true.  I vividly remember checking out that fact with my mom and dad and even then wondering if some error was made.  By all accounts, Christmas was a bigger deal with all of the parties, traditions, activities, and gifts.

With a more mature understanding, we learn that Holy Week is the most sacred time in our faith, and Easter is the most important day in our faith and in all of history.  We are called to remember and reflect on the final week of Jesus’s life.  There are so many key teachings and fulfilled prophecies during Holy Week: the humility of the Son of God and the Son of Man arriving in Jerusalem on a donkey, the humanity of Jesus dealing with anger and frustration from the violation of the Temple, the call to discipleship and service in the symbolic washing of feet, and the institution of the Sacrament of the Eucharist.  The week ends with the tremendous suffering of Good Friday, the silence and uncertainty of Saturday, and the joyous Resurrection on Sunday.

Lelia and I wish you a meaningful and prayerful Holy Week and a wonderful Easter.  Easter is so incredibly joyous as it is the ultimate proof that hatred, suffering, and death can be conquered with love.  One of Jesus’s final instructions to his disciplines was given at the Last Supper:  "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another" (John 13:34).  We hope your Easter season is filled with the love of God and the tremendous renewal and rebirth that comes from living in God’s love.

At Saint Ursula Academy, that love takes many forms.  The bonds of sisterhood that we have with each other are a way of showing God’s love to each other.  We celebrate the promise of everlasting life and the love of Jesus as we celebrate the Eucharist together.  We put love into action as we learn ways to serve and act as true prophets of Christ.

Enjoy Spring Break!  We look forward to seeing our students back at school when it resumes on Wednesday, April 23, following our “reward day off” on Tuesday, April 22 from the Grand Raffle.

Happy Easter!

Kathy
