Dear SUA Community,
The heartbreaking tragedy at Annunciation Parish and School in Minneapolis weighs heavily on all of us who serve in, are members of, and love Catholic schools. There is an additional sadness and worry for parents/guardians of a loved one currently enrolled. It is only natural to long for a 100% guarantee of safety, even though we know that is not always possible in a world where evil exists. As we process this tragedy, two things stand out to me: how much the world needs the values of our faith, and how essential our relationships of love and care for one another remain.
Our fervent prayers for the healing and peace that only God can provide are with all who are impacted in any manner. May God, in His mercy, bring comfort and peace where it is most needed.
The safety of your children and our faculty and staff at Saint Ursula Academy is our highest priority in every action we take and decision we make. You may see media coverage regarding detailed school safety protocols. Please know that, for the protection of our community, we do not publicly share our detailed plans. We remain steadfast in following our safety protocols at SUA, which include training our community in situational awareness and Run, Hide, Fight; maintaining updated Emergency Management Plans, practicing safety drills, fostering strong partnerships with our School Resource Officers, monitoring visitor protocols, ensuring lanyards are worn, regulating badge access, and collaborating with a safety expert.
On a different note, we are looking forward to our annual Meet and Greet on Thursday, September 11, 6-7:30 pm. The evening will start with a Blessing of the Parents/Guardians in the Chapel, a beautiful reminder of the partnership that exists between our school and a child’s parents/guardians. For the rest of the evening, parents/guardians will follow their daughter’s schedule, bells 1-7, with time for individual teacher presentations in the classrooms. The teachers will introduce themselves, their course of study, and how students can be successful in the course. There will also be resources available to help parents with things like the Safe Arrival and Chapperone apps. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend this wonderful opportunity to learn more about your daughter’s school day, her teachers, and the curricula she will be studying this year.
The Meet and Greet will be followed by a mandatory travel orientation for ALL minimester overnight trips occurring during both the December and May minimesters. One parent/guardian will need to attend this mandatory orientation from 7:40-8:10 pm in the SUA Theater.
Go Bulldogs!
