Dear SUA Community,
One of the ways that I often describe Saint Ursula Academy is by noting that we excel at combining academic excellence with whole-person development. This means nurturing our students spiritually, academically, socially, and emotionally, while encouraging them to live out our mission through leadership and service.
Faith development is a cornerstone of Ursuline education. This past weekend SUA faculty and students participated in the Ursuline Education Retreat in Dallas, Texas. Religion Department Co-Chairs Lisa Caito and Joanne Elsbrock accompanied five SUA students who joined thirty students from seven other Ursuline schools across the country. Through this unique experience, they deepen their understanding of Saint Angela Merici’s spirituality and will bring their learning and reflections back to SUA to help strengthen and enhance our own Merician spirituality within the school community. We look forward to joining in spirit all of our Ursuline schools as we celebrate the Feast Day of St. Angela Merici on January 27.
Our students also continue to live out Christ-centered values through involvement in clubs, activities, and opportunities that promote justice, ethical reasoning, and community engagement. On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, students participated in the King Legacy Celebration Breakfast at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, followed by the MLK Coalition March alongside our Senior Director of Community and Cultural Engagement, Kayla Neel. This coming weekend, students will also represent SUA at the Ethics Bowl, where they will engage in thoughtful, respectful discourse around complex moral and ethical issues. Last year, one of SUA’s teams impressively placed 4th out of a huge array of teams from schools across the area!
These experiences reflect the many ways Saint Ursula Academy forms young women who are reflective, compassionate, and prepared to lead with integrity.
