Dear SUA Community,
Last week was National School Counselors’ Week, and I want to take a moment to recognize the outstanding counseling team at SUA. Our Counseling Department includes Tiffany Berry, Kelly Burgei, Elizabeth Jutte, Wendy Long, Jaime Rueger, and Jenna Wilker, with Laura Roman serving as Senior Director of Counseling and Family Resources and Vikki Rose as Counseling Department Coordinator. Our students and our entire community are incredibly fortunate to be supported by such a talented and dedicated group of professionals.
Because our counselors maintain small caseloads and work with the same group of students throughout their time at SUA, they develop strong, supportive relationships with each student. This deep understanding allows them to guide students thoughtfully through their academic, social, and emotional growth. Our counselors empower students to engage in meaningful and courageous conversations with peers and teachers, while building the skills, confidence, and voice needed to become strong self-advocates, both now and in the future. When it comes time to make college decisions, this foundation leads to informed, individualized guidance for each student’s next educational steps. Our school is truly stronger because of our Counseling Department!
This is also the time of year when counselors begin working with students on course selections for the coming school year as part of their four-year academic plans. Please be sure to review updates in the Parent Bulletin so that you can be an active partner in this important process.
In support of this work, tomorrow, February 12, students in grades 9 through 11 will participate in a schoolwide Elective Fair. Teachers from all departments will share information about elective offerings, helping students better understand our rich curriculum and make informed choices.
Thank you for your partnership in this important decision-making.
Go Bulldogs!
Kathy
