Lelia and I want to extend a huge thank you to the entire SUA community for their support of our adult community as we received a COVID-19 vaccination.  At this point, almost every faculty and staff member has been fully vaccinated.  We all fared well after receiving our vaccinations, but recovery time WAS necessary after the second dose.

Wrapping up the Third Quarter, on the heels of the SUA faculty and staff receiving their second dosage of the COVID-19 vaccination, is very exciting!

We have additional exciting news.  Nicola Settle '21 has recently been awarded an internship with Grant Us Hope.  Through an extensive application and interview process, Nicola exhibited qualities not often seen in a high school student. Her passion for mental health awareness and suicide prevention, excellent communication skills, and professional demeanor set her apart. The Grant Us Hope high school internship program is another way Hope Squad Members can amplify their voice while expanding their leadership skills to create impact across the state. We know you join us in celebrating the success of Nicola.

Nicola is certainly a leader among leaders and it is important for me to give additional congratulations to Cathy Sherrick, Arielle Balz, Mark Simcoe, Kathy Hammond, and Andy Hittle for their outstanding leadership of the high school Hope Squad program. Their vision and leadership continue to raise the bar for Hope Squads across our region.

As I mentioned last week, Mr. Moran, Ms. Utecht, and I continue to explore ways to make the lunch/break time more enjoyable and relaxing.  We will adjust and enhance where we can throughout the Fourth Quarter.  To start, we are encouraging students to take advantage of outdoor eating opportunities.  The weather for the next two weeks looks promising, and we are hopeful that spring weather will be as mild as the fall weather.

Senior parents, please remember that there are links to Senior Events and dress requirements on the SUA website, under Quick Links, Family Resources. We are hopeful that you are as excited about the senior celebrations as we are!  The SUA administration wants each senior and her family to feel safe and comfortable at SUA’s senior events. Each family’s COVID-19 approach and sentiments are important to us, therefore, the only mandatory event this year will be graduation.

Please keep in mind that even though Governor DeWine continues to adjust the restrictions on community and school activities, his orders indicate that we must plan for senior events with capacity restrictions, social distancing restrictions, and mask wearing requirements.  We will continue to adjust senior events as the Ohio guidelines change.  We want the best for our seniors, and must remain compliant to Ohio guidelines.  Thank you for support and understanding as we continue to flex forward for the Class of 2021.
