Dear Saint Ursula Community,

While we are still in “start” mode, a lot of activities are picking up this week for the students.  The biggest of these is the Club and Co-curricular Fair that occurs on Thursday during our first Gold Bell of the year.  Please remember that our Gold Bell Schedule includes a late start for students: this Thursday and all subsequent Gold Bell days will start at 8:30 am in order to allow our faculty and staff to meet in the morning.  

One of the great advantages of SUA is that the majority of the clubs and student organizations meet during the school day allowing students to manage the demands of their after-school time while still being able to participate in our extensive co-curricular opportunities.  Kathy Hammond, our Vice Principal of Student Life, has put together this 2023-2024 Co-Curricular Booklet that provides an outline of all of our offerings as well as guidance about how to get involved in SUA activities in a balanced manner without over-committing.  Here is a list of this year’s meeting dates for planning purposes.  Co-curricular activities are a great way for our students to EXPAND their perspectives and experiences in keeping with our year’s theme:  Change Starts with U:  EXPAND.  We know that our students will be guided by their own interests, but it is always helpful as parents to know the opportunities that SUA offers.  

In terms of keeping up with student issues, our Chief Information Officer, Tim Wilking, alerted me to the Saturn app that is gaining popularity among students at the start of the school year.  The good news is that we are not hearing SUA students talking about this app; however, since there are safety concerns, we want you to be informed.  It may be worth a pre-emptive conversation.  Here is a link with more information.
