Dear Saint Ursula Community,

This week Lelia and I ask that you keep Saint Ursula Academy’s Class of 2028 in your prayers.  Enrollment Day is Wednesday, January 31st, appropriately in the middle of Catholic Schools Week.  One of the first things that happened as we welcomed prospective students at Open House was we gave them a prayer card.  The prayer card was for their own personal discernment and to remind them our community will be praying for them throughout the process of choosing their high school.  It is powerful to think that the current students and families are praying for our new students and families during this exciting time in their 8th grade year.

SUA will host several events this week for the 8th-grade students who applied and were offered admission. Lelia and I are really looking forward to this weekend when new members of the Class of 2028 are invited to gather with their families for the first time in the Chapel to celebrate a Mass prior to enrollment day, which is scheduled for January 31 per Archdiocese of Cincinnati guidelines. We appreciate you sharing your great personal stories and information about SUA with these prospective girls and families whom you may know; that personal touch contributes greatly to the sense of welcoming and belonging that is so important to our community.

Friday our school is celebrating Mass to honor the Feast Day of Saint Angela Merici, which is January 27th.  There are many fascinating elements to her life, but the one that strikes me is how Saint Angela Merici reimagined how a community of women could be dedicated to God and also live in the world and serve their neighbors in a way that was freer and more independent.  By the time that she died in 1540, she had established over twenty-four groups of women.  As a result of her work, the Ursulines are the oldest and one of the most respected teaching orders in the Catholic church.  We remember and pray especially for the Ursulines of Cincinnati who dedicated their lives to serving the students at SUA and so many others in our areas.  Saint Angela Merici’s spirit is alive in our school’s mission to graduate “women filled with faith, integrity, and courage, ready to make a positive impact in the world.”  I think Saint Angela Merici would be so proud of SUA and all of the current students and alumnae who are a tribute to her vision.

Have a great rest of your week.  Go Bulldogs!

Kathy
