COUNSELING: Academic Support Reminders, Testing Day, Spring Break Opportunity, Bulldog Blast

Date: March 19, 2024
Reading Time: 2 minutes

Academic Support Reminders: We want all students to finish strong in their courses this year and we have many support resources available to help them out! Students may access help through the B.A.R.C. program, asking for a one-on-one tutor, accessing outside tutors {see a list of possibilities here}, and of course are encouraged to meet with their teachers any time they are struggling!

  • What is B.A.R.C? The Bulldog Academic Resource Center (B.A.R.C.) provides students a place to receive extra help with school work from a peer tutor. Additionally, it is a quiet place to work independently, or to have a collaborative space to work with other classmates on group assignments. B.A.R.C. takes place Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays during 5th Bell in Mrs. Wilker's Room, C224. There is no need to sign up! B.A.R.C. is a drop-in tutoring center any student can go to when they have questions that come up in courses and they need some quick support.
  • What if a student wants more individualized, on-going support? There are National Honor Society peer tutors who would be more than happy to provide some individualized tutoring. Students may complete the form below to sign up to be paired with a peer tutor. Peer Tutor Sign Up Form
  • Here is a list of outside tutors you are welcome to contact! Do you have a suggestion of a tutor for us to add to the list? We would love to know! Please send suggestions our way!

If you are ever struggling to assist your student with accessing help, please contact your daughter’s counselor. We are here to help!!

Reminder! Testing Day for 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students is Tuesday, March 26. Students should arrive to school no later than 7:45 am and plan to be dismissed a little after noon.

OPPORTUNITY FOR SPRING BREAK!! Is your daughter interested in Law, Political Science, Criminal Justice, or Global Competence/Equity & Ethical Issues? On Tuesday April 2 (over Spring Break), we have been invited to select students (any grade level) to spend the day at the First District Court of Appeals with local judge, Marilyn ZayasThis awesome day of learning about Judge Zayas' job and how her court operates day-to-day will take place in the Taft building (one block from the county courthouse), during school(ish) hours. If your student (any grade) would like to join the group of SUA students taking advantage of this opportunity, she should let Ms. Roman know by Friday of this week! There is no cost to participate. Students would need their own transportation to get to the Taft Building and back that day.

Bulldog Blast for this week can be found here!
