College Information Night at SUA is October 3 from 6-8pm at the Keller Student Center for families of students in grades 9, 10, 11. Topics to be covered include the application process, discovering a major, finding your college fit, financial aid, NCAA eligibility for athletics, college entrance testing and much more! The event is structured as a series of individual workshops for you to attend, based on your daughter’s interests and needs! RSVP HERE!
Parents of Juniors:
- Today during Wednesday programming, we prepped juniors for the PSAT/NMSQT and ensured their computers are ready to go for this digital exam. Sophomore and Junior Students will take the PSAT on SUA’s fall testing day, October 15. The PSAT is not sent to colleges, but scores on this test can qualify students for National Merit recognition. More information about Testing Day will be forthcoming.
- In addition to the PSAT, Juniors should also be thinking about prepping for college admissions testing (ACT and/or SAT). Some juniors may choose to take a late fall/winter ACT or SAT to get their initial score and then follow up with our free February 25 ACT test here at school. We recommend that you do not send your daughter’s scores to any college yet, as you do not know which test date(s) you will want that college to have! ACE Test Prep holds a prep class at SUA in October. More information about this option is here. There are many reputable tutors and programs in our area available to help students feel confident about testing. Testing, test prep, and test optionality are topics covered in detail during the Junior College Family Planning Meets in January and February.
- Other helpful tasks for families of juniors beginning the college planning process include attending College Information Night on Oct 3, setting up a few college visits/tours over fall break, and attending virtual info sessions at colleges you may be interested in! The NACAC College Fair is a great place to gather information on new schools - reminder it is being held on September 29 at the NKY Convention Center.
- This is such an exciting time for juniors, but it is also a time with lots of questions! If you have any questions at all about the college process for your daughter, please reach out to her counselor.
