COUNSELING: Q3 Small Group Opportunities, Junior College Planning Meeting SignUps, Senior Parent Reminders, Bulldog Blast

Date: December 10, 2024
Reading Time: 3 minutes

The SUA Counseling Department is excited to offer a series of small counseling groups for students that are designed to provide support and create a space for meaningful conversation and personal growth. These groups will meet during the third quarter and focus on individual topics that may benefit your daughter:

  • Perfectionism: In this small group, we’ll explore the pressures of striving for flawlessness, learn how to embrace mistakes, and build healthier ways to set realistic goals and expectations.
  • Creative Expression:  This group offers a safe space for students to express themselves through creative outlets. It’s an opportunity to explore emotions, reduce stress, build community, and tap into personal creativity in a supportive environment.
  • Grief:  For girls navigating loss or significant life changes, this group provides a compassionate setting to share experiences, process emotions, and find support. Together, we’ll explore healthy ways to cope with grief and rebuild a sense of hope and connection. Fernside of Cincinnati will be partnering with us for this group.
  • Body Image:  This group will focus on helping students develop a positive and empowered relationship with their bodies. We’ll discuss the impact of social media, societal pressures, and self-esteem, while learning tools to embrace self-love and body acceptance.

If you feel your daughter could benefit from one of these groups, please complete the brief form below so we can directly reach out to her to invite her. Participation is voluntary, and each group will meet in a supportive, confidential environment. Counseling Small Group Interest Form. Thank you for your continued support and partnership. If you have any questions or would like more information, please don't hesitate to reach out to your daughter's counselor.

Parents of Juniors: Junior College Planning Meetings for Families sign ups were emailed to your daughter on Friday! Please talk with your daughter this week about finding a good time for your meeting if you have not had that conversation already. Our goal is to ensure that all juniors and parents/guardians have the necessary tools to begin navigating the college process. Appointments will begin in January and continue through March. During this 90 minute meeting, we will cover a variety of topics related to the college admissions process including:

  • Transcript review
  • Standardized testing
  • Building a college resume
  • College essays
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Developing a college list
  • Major and career goals

The meetings are required and at least one parent/guardian must be present. You should also complete the Class of 2026 Parent Questionnaire before your scheduled meeting. Please talk with your daughter about finding a time that works for you all and sign up today!

Parents of Seniors:

  • Reminder to please complete FAFSA as soon as you are able. Many schools also have their own financial aid determination process, which may or may not include the CSS Profile
  • Be sure to check the Scholarship Opportunity spreadsheet that we have available for students and we update regularly!
  • Please ensure your daughter is reporting ALL SCHOLARSHIPS offered (not just the ones she will accept) on the Class of 2025 Scholarship Form.
  • Midyear transcripts will be sent to all the schools to which your senior applied in mid-January once they are finalized. Students do not need to ask us to send mid-year transcripts, as we will do so automatically, but if a senior does not want her mid-year transcript sent to a certain school, she can let us know!
