Parent Bulletin

Date: September 9, 2020
Reading Time: 2 minutes

Over the past several weeks of school, Saint Ursula Academy has seen its share of COVID-19 exposures.  As Lelia, Jodi, and I review the impact of COVID-19 exposure on the SUA campus, we are pleased that the unique design of SUA's COVID-19 schedule has enabled us to better mitigate the spread and the need to quarantine our faculty and students.  Most specifically, the breakdown of our 4 courses over two days limits the number of classes per day, which means less interaction, and a reduction in the number of students required to quarantine due to a COVID-19 positive or exposed students.  In addition, the single class transition per day, short morning break, and optional lunch after the second class period have reduced the number of impacted students due to contact tracing.  Finally, the Wednesday distance learning day has created another 24-hour span of time that reduces the exposure and quarantining requirements AND provides a built-in break to thoroughly clean and provide regular Pentrexx application.  Though some question the why behind our schedule, it remains clear that the forward-thinking COVID-19 responsive schedule has helped SUA to reduce the number of student quarantines by COVID-19 exposure AND enabled us to better mitigate the spread due to limited contact and once-a-week deep cleaning.  We are fortunate to have such an effective schedule during this most unprecedented time.

Governor DeWine issued a new COVID-19 reporting requirement for schools. Based upon this new order, SUA must report COVID-19 positive cases to the school community.  SUA has been committed to open and transparent communication regarding COVID-19 exposure and this new guidance will only enhance our communication. Along with individual communication about COVID-19 exposure, SUA has designed a COVID-19 dashboard that highlights our community exposure.   Visit the SUA COVID-19 Dashboard.  This dashboard will be updated every week for the Wednesday Parent Bulletin.  Additionally, this dashboard will be accessible on the SUA website under Family Resources and in the special COVID-19 information and dashboard section on the homepage.

We ask that all families take time to read the Governor’s new requirement as it speaks to each family’s requirement to notify the school WITHIN 24 HOURS of a test positive.  Once we receive the test positive notification, SUA must notify the community WITHIN 24 HOURS of the test positive notification.  This quick and responsible relay of test positive notifications enables SUA to begin the partnership with the City of Cincinnati Department of Health to start the contact tracing to stop the spread.  As we have shared in the past, family partnership and responsible communication will help to limit the spread of COVID-19 at SUA.  Thank you for doing your part.
