Over the course of the 2020-2021 school year, faculty and staff participated in the One Degree Shift DEI Programming for Educators. As part of our school commitment to creating a welcoming and equitable community for every student, the SUA faculty and staff have worked all year with the team from the Hamilton County Educational Service Center (ESC) in a program called One Degree Shift. ESC educational consultants Katrice Quitter and Lena Patton met with faculty and staff each MONTH in-person and virtually to facilitate activities and discussions on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. These professionals support area educators, schools, districts, and nonprofits to envision what diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging practices look like in action by making a one-degree shift in what we do each day. The programming was focused on helping each individual grow in their personal cultural awareness. We are happy to share that our adult community will continue our work with the One Degree Shift team next school year.
