What’s Laura Learning?
Words are powerful. I recently tuned in to Adam Grant’s podcast interview with clinical psychologist Becky Kennedy (Dr. Becky) titled: Bringing out the good in kids—and parents. In this fascinating listen, she and Adam Grant discuss the importance of the questions you ask your kids at the end of the day. My main takeaway was that our voice to our kids becomes their voice to themselves. Questions matter. The things you ask your kids about are the things that they will pay attention to during the day. I’ve been considering what this means for us when raising teens - and how it creates expectations and priorities for them. And how we could possibly shift how they think about what is really important (and perhaps alleviate even a tiny bit of stress) through the intentionality of what we ask about once we are all home together.
