DEI Update

Thanks to Alicia Tidwell and our students in Sisters in Cultural Unity, SICU, we had artist and poet Annie Ruth back at SUA last Friday, showcasing her work, “ On Her Shoulders”, in the Keller Center for everyone to check out!

Annie Ruth is an internationally respected artist with a heart for promoting sisterhood, empowering youth and sharing the universal power of the Arts.

Each piece is very impactful,  giving you a glimpse of perspective to see what’s “on her shoulders” as a black woman, while also sharing some history; our history. Thank you Mama Annie Ruth for sharing this with us at Saint Ursula Academy! More info at https://annieruth.com/index.html

Service Update

On Sunday, March 3 from 1-3 pm in the Keller Student Center, SUA ceramics students will be hosting a simple luncheon at school, the SUA Empty Bowls Event. This fundraising event will support the work of the Heartfelt Tidbits and raise awareness of the issues of food insecurity in our own communities. Our ceramics students have made beautifully hand-painted bowls and they will be offered in exchange for a small donation to benefit our partner agency.  We hope you can join us! Interested in donating to this cause or providing a crockpot of soup and/or attending this event? If so, Contact Laurel Fiorelli:  lfiorelli@saintursula.org

Global Education

This week we begin our annual March Madness for Mission Collection. This monetary donation collection takes place on Wednesdays in advisory and focuses on global causes. Mission Collection is a formational opportunity for our students to become more aware of a global issue and realize their ability to make an impact. This year we are focusing on supporting agencies working to eradicate Human Trafficking, to educate about Period Poverty, and to provide funding for the education for the Global Girl.

As a goal for our students, we suggest $5.00 per student. One hundred percent of the money we collect will go directly to those in need across the globe. This is one small tangible way to teach students the power of collective giving and philanthropy.

One “fun” aspect of Mission Collection is this annual competition among all of the advisories to see who can raise the most money over the course of the month. If you would be willing to join in on the fun and support our collections here are some suggestions:

  • Offer to pay your daughter a larger-than-usual amount for a task around the house if she donates it to missions
  • Offer to match whatever she is giving—challenge her to be extra generous for this upcoming collection!
  • Offer a matching grant for the homeroom (you can set a limit)

This is one of the small ways we can return our many blessings while helping instill in our young women a sense of solidarity with those in need. Thank you for your support.
