DEIB Updates

February is Black History Month!

This year’s theme at SUA for Black History Month is Black Excellence & Labor; recognizing their excellence and seeing the impact of their hard work within their careers and businesses within the community.

Students will take part in various activities throughout February to celebrate Black History Month. Each grade will have its own learning experience during Merici Time, featuring guest speakers from different businesses sharing their success stories. During morning announcements, students will present “Black History Fun Facts” each week. They’re also creating a mini-exhibit in the East Foyer, showcasing Black HERstory posters and African American regalia. Additionally, a Paint ‘N’ Sip event will be held during lunch, where students can sign up in advance for a fun painting activity. Exciting events are happening all month long!

Ways to engage & expand: Check out the Freedom Center, read a book, or watch a documentary about Black History or African American Cuisine. Support local black-owned businesses https://thevoiceofblackcincinnati.com/black-owned-businesses/, Visit a predominately African American church in your area.
