This year the Social Justice organization at SUA continues to promote and educate our community about Fair Trade. The goal is to spread awareness about injustices and to prevent modern human slavery by promoting purchasing Fair Trade goods. Fair Trade is not charity. Rather, it provides sustainable income to some of the world’s poorest people. This website provides a good description of the process. This chocolate sale is not a fundraising activity.
One bag of about 50 individually wrapped pieces of fairly traded chocolate is $15. Those of you who have supported this sale for years will notice a price increase this year. The cost of cocoa has skyrocketed in recent months due to a cocoa bean shortage. Our supplier, Equal Exchange, does its best to maintain reasonable prices, though they are limited by global markets.
At $15 for a bag of 50 pieces of individually wrapped chocolate, you can improve the quality of life of those who suffer to farm our chocolate. By buying Fair Trade, we are promoting the dignity of human life and taking an action step against slavery that still exists in our world.
If you are interested in making a difference this Halloween, join us to promote this cause. You can fill out the linked order form by printing below or clicking HERE and order Fair Trade Chocolate.
This year, 150 students will volunteer regularly with these 12 amazing agencies in our hometown through our SOS programming:
In addition, 65 Bulldog Buddies students will tutor weekly at each of these four local schools:
Our fair trade student run coffee shop, the Bulldog Boost, is getting a rebrand! Students in Mr. Mussari's design class created marketing packages with their ideas of a new logo. In the photo below, students presented their ideas to their peers, the Bulldog Boost workers, teachers, and administrators. Stay tuned for the students' final decision for our new Bulldog Boost look!
Last week the Freshmen and Juniors were able to engage in their grade level’s Hispanic Heritage Experience during Merici Time.
Freshmen got to taste some food items they researched & presented about the week before, and the Juniors were able to break those beautiful pinatas they decorated. We also displayed some of their Papel Picado masterpieces in the East Foyer and in their seating area in Keller. So Fun!
