Fair Trade Candy Sale for Halloween!

This year, the Social Justice organization at SUA continues to promote and educate our community about Fair Trade.  The goal is to spread awareness about injustices and to prevent modern human slavery by promoting purchasing Fair Trade goods. Fair Trade is not charity.  Rather, it provides sustainable income to some of the world’s poorest people. This website provides a good description of the process. This chocolate sale is not a fundraising activity.

Fair Trade USA™ is an organization that examines whether or not the people who cultivate goods are being paid a living wage.  Most often, this is not the case.  Sadly, many of the products we buy have been tainted by slave labor and other such abuses.  Fairly traded products seek to remedy this injustice by lending a voice to the voiceless.  We can play a part simply by purchasing products that are fairly traded.  By using our free market purchasing power in this manner, and instead of buying what is cheap and inexpensive, we send a signal that we stand with those who are abused.

At only $10 for a bag of 50 pieces of individually wrapped chocolate, you can improve the quality of life of those who suffer to farm our chocolate.  The fairly traded milk-chocolate pieces are about 20 cents per piece.  That is less than the price of a gumball, or a mint at Skyline.  Yet by buying Fair Trade, we are promoting the dignity of human life and taking an action step against slavery that still exists in our world.
If you are interested in making a difference this Halloween, join us to promote this cause.  You can fill out the linked order form by clicking HERE and order Fair Trade Chocolate.
