SERVICE, EQUITY, and GLOBAL EDUCATION: Food and Personal Care DRIVE & DEI update

Date: October 22, 2024
Reading Time: 2 minutes

SUA's Annual Community D.R.I.V.E. is underway!

D.R.I.V.E. stands for Donate, Respond, Invest, Value, and Educate. It is our one time to come out en masse to support our neighbors in need, and is paired with education about hunger and food insecurity here at school.

Between October 18 - 31, help SUA reach our goal of filling 20 barrels with food and personal care items to support four local pantries: Saint Vincent de Paul, MEAC, Mercy Neighborhood Ministries, and Episcopal Retirement Services. Three options to donate:

  1. Bring shelf-stable food items (boxed, bagged, or canned foods that your own family would like to eat and is easy to prepare, has easy to open lids, and is healthy)
  2. Bring personal care items (oral hygiene, deodorant, hair care, diapers, toilet paper, etc.)
  3. Give financially through our Venmo or check made out to SUA.

HERE is a flyer we have given students access to for posting on street facebook pages or passing out to neighbors to get the word out about this DRIVE. In addition, we have given them THIS sample email to send to family and friends.

DEI Update

We’re wrapping up Hispanic Heritage Month as Sophomores are making their mini folkloric outfits from all Hispanic/Latin American Countries. The seniors learned about the different genres of music and the dance that goes with them. This week they wrapped it up with learning how to dance salsa and bachata after a fun little live kahoot game in the gym.

We’re really focusing on “sprinkling” the acknowledgement and celebrations of different heritage months across campus in different areas and programs at SUA with decorations, books, flags, impactful personas, banners, guests, and so much more.

If you would like to be more involved with any heritage month, please feel free to email Pamela Mallory at pmallory@saintursula.org.

To our Jewish Community: Wishing you a warm and healthy Sukkot. May God protect you, as He has before. Sukkot, the Feast of Tabernacles, is a Jewish holiday commemorating the protection/shelter of the Israelites in the wilderness after leaving Egypt.  Sukkot comes 5 days after Yom Kipper; Oct 18 - Oct 23rd. To learn more about Sukkot, please click HERE.

Coming up next month in November: Native American History Month.

* IF YOU EVER FEEL YOU NEED TO SHARE AN EXPERIENCE, POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE, PLEASE SHARE. We’re here to support you and your child in any way possible.
