Want to give back as a Family? Check out this great and simple Family Service Opportunity:

People Working Cooperatively (PWC) is a local non-profit organization whose mission is to help people remain living safely in their homes by providing preventative measures and addressing issues in the home that would impact the health of the residents.

Every fall, PWC has an event called Prepare Affair where they assist older adults and folks with disabilities with outdoor maintenance tasks before winter by raking their leaves and cleaning their gutters.

This year, Prepare Affair is on Saturday, November 15th from about 9am-1pm, with a lunch back at PWC’s campus (4612 Paddock Rd.) afterwards. While the 15th will be our “main day” of the event, we are encouraging teams to pick the day in November that works best for them. PWC is able to provide the yard waste bags, gloves, rakes, and ladders for volunteers (though we certainly appreciate teams that can provide some of their own tools).

The registration page is up and running, so please consider signing up as a family to help neighbors in need with raking!

Fair Trade Candy Sale for Halloween!

This year the Social Justice organization in collaboration with the Bulldog Boost Coffee shop at SUA continues to promote and educate our community about Fair Trade. The goal is to spread awareness about injustices and to prevent modern human slavery by promoting purchasing Fair Trade goods. Fair Trade is not charity.  Rather, it provides sustainable income to some of the world’s poorest people. This website provides a good description of the process. This chocolate sale is not a fundraising activity.

One bag of about 50 small individually wrapped pieces of fairly traded chocolate is $15.

At $15 for a bag of 50 pieces of individually wrapped chocolate, you can improve the quality of life of those who suffer to farm our chocolate. By buying Fair Trade, we are promoting the dignity of human life and taking an action step against slavery that still exists in our world.
ORDER FORM HERE: This can be sent through email or with students and they can pick up from Ms. Kemper OR they can buy directly from the Bulldog Boost on the below dates at lunch.  October 1, 8, 17, 21 and 23.
