Community Service Learning expands the walls of the classroom in so many wonderful ways. So far this year, SOS has helped 136 students participate in regular service at 12 agencies, and Bulldog Buddies sends 65 students each week into three area elementary schools to tutor students. In religion, sophomores learned about food insecurity by volunteering weekly with Walnut Hills Community Garden and Our Daily Bread, while freshmen packed Halloween goody bags for kids through Saint Vincent de Paul. The Mental Health Alliance and Spanish Honor Society partnered to make bilingual affirmation cards and mental health support tool kits for immigrant clients at Su Casa Hispanic Center. All of these unique learning experiences help shape students into thinkers, leaders, nurturers, and prophets. More projects are under way for this quarter, so stay tuned.
Our Community Donation D.R.I.V.E. has about one more week! This is our annual Donation Drive which stands for DONATE, RESPOND, INVEST, VALUE and EDUCATE.
How does D.R.I.V.E. work? Each grade has been asked to bring in Personal Care or Non-Perishable Food donations - see lists below. Students are encouraged to invest their own time and resources as well as encourage family and friends to support D.R.I.V.E. We give them 3 ways to do this:
