Gail and Rich Staubach-Kelly from St. Boniface food pantry speak to the senior class

Last week wrapped up another successful D.R.I.V.E., where students met their goal of donating more than 20 barrels of food and personal care items to our neighbors in need. SUA donations proudly supported Mercy Neighborhood Ministries, Hope Emergency Program, Heartfelt Tidbits, and St. Boniface Food Pantry. We hosted speakers from these agencies, and wanted to share some interesting takeaways from what we learned.

  • One out of every five children and teens in Hamilton County is food insecure.
  • Personal care items like shampoo, soap, laundry detergent, and diapers are NOT covered by SNAP benefits, and are therefore the items that pantries request most.
  • These supplies can also be helpful when interruptions to government services happen.

Within this context, our donations have come at just the right time, when our neighbors will need them the most. Thank you to everyone who gave generously in support of our D.R.I.V.E.!

Helpful terms:

  • D.R.I.V.E. - the name of our annual food and personal care collection, which stands for Donate, Respond, Invest, Value, and Educate
