Soul of the Art Classroom

Date: December 19, 2023
Reading Time: 2 minutes

Students in Mr. Nicaise’s Art Foundations classes have been very busy this term. Students are just finishing a project called, “A Bird and a Word,” an embroidery project for Christmas. Students are enjoying learning about textile art and practicing some embroidery stitches for their delightful wall hangings.

A couple of weeks ago, the classes finished “SOS Selfie” projects that will be exhibited at the SOS Peace and Justice Student Exhibition at Oak Hills High School in February. The students began their project with a visit to the Smithsonian’s, “Girlhood: It’s Complicated” exhibition at the Cincinnati Museum Center. Then, in the Art classroom, they digitally created pieces centered around our “selfies” combined with
personal attributes and strong statements of conviction based on topics of peace and social justice. We
hope you enjoy a few samples of the artwork the students created featuring the word they are passionate about.
