Transforming Classroom Civics into Civic Responsibility - As we integrate the Academy Alum philosophy into our classroom, it is evident that the seniors in American Government are putting into action their role as a prophet. It is expected that our students as prophets “demonstrate civic responsibility, and participate in the democratic process.” Mrs. Mollaun’s students in American Government are learning that they are constituents and as such have many elected officials that represent them at the local, state, and national levels of government. To help them see their place in the larger world they created a 3-dimensional visual expression of the constituencies to which they belong. In order to foster their participation in the democratic process, those seniors who will be 18 by November 5 were given the opportunity to register to vote. The goal of this activity as well as of the course is to educate our students on the importance of active civic engagement.
