This Halloween, World Language students enjoyed vibrant celebrations of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) and Vesper Omnium Sanctōrum (All Souls’ Eve) designed to deepen global and intercultural competence.
Spanish 4 and AP students teamed up for a delicious Día de los Muertos collaboration, preparing traditional dishes such as atole, tamales, ensalada xec, pan de muerto, and cocadas. This activity gave students the opportunity to explore Mexican traditions through food, practice Spanish in an authentic context, and celebrate the cultural connections they have been studying in class.
Latin students marked the season by playing Versipellis (“Werewolf”) in Latin, using the ancient language in a communicative and compelling way. Students collaborated to identify the Versipellēs hiding among them, bringing Latin to life as a communicative tool. Students enjoyed an interactive game of mystery and persuasion while also reinforcing high-frequency vocabulary and syntax through meaningful repetition.
