Students taking Mrs. Rosen’s Explorations in Engineering class recently wrapped up their quarter with several projects designed to challenge them to think critically, creatively, and collaboratively while using the engineering design process. A class favorite was the ‘Out of this Box’ design challenge in which students had unlimited cardboard, a single roll of duct tape, and some hot glue and were tasked with designing and creating a full sized chair that would comfortably and stably seat an adult. Students researched furniture design and truss use to come up with an efficient and aesthetic way to build their chairs. Each group came up with a unique and successful chair that was enjoyed by all.
