The junior Morality classes have been diving deeper into the 10 Commandments and exploring modern day examples of ways we can work to follow these commandments more closely. One way we did this was by reflecting on the story of the Golden Calf (Exodus 32) and then spent time thinking about the things and activities in our lives that we “worship” or put before our relationship with God.
Students came up with so many good ideas of things in their lives that aren’t inherently bad, but that have become convenient excuses for not spending more time with God or on growing in our faith. Some examples include sports, social media, work, shopping, sleeping, etc. These are all decent, not harmful things, but they often become an excuse as to why we can’t attend Mass or spend more time in prayer. The girls then used their artistic skills to create a “modern day Golden Calf” to help guide their discussion. This was a very eye-opening experience for many of the students. Check out some of their self-reflective works of art!
