AP Environmental Science (APES) students recently completed their farm design projects. After learning about the challenges and environmental effects of modern agriculture, students were challenged to design an agricultural plot that addresses some of these issues by implementing sustainable solutions. Certain criteria needed to be met on their farm including applying polyculture, integrated pest management, soil and water conservation techniques, among others. A blend of both art and science, students created a drawing/schematic of their farm with an accompanying description of how their farms met these required criteria. This project allows students to tap into their creative sides while considering sustainable agricultural practices that will help humanity continue to feed the world in the future.
