“It is only when they go wrong that machines remind you how powerful they are.”

  • Clive James

Technology is everywhere around us and we cannot escape it. It is part of our daily activity.  At some point, we have all experienced problems with technology. For our students, faculty, and staff at Saint Ursula Academy, the Technology Department serves as a self-maintainer for Lenovo and Dell computer hardware, providing on-site warranty and non-warranty repairs and troubleshooting for our students, faculty, and staff.

Did you know that Saint Ursula Academy has an award-winning Technology Help Desk staff, operated by Devon Domantay and Dan Horn? For three consecutive years (2020, 2021, & 2022), we have received the Lenovo Elite Servicer Warranty Self-Maintainer award. The annual Elite Servicer award is presented to the top 10 percent of the Self-Maintainers in the North American region.  Lenovo, a multinational technology company, is one of the hardware suppliers SUA uses for the one-to-one program that provides laptops to students and faculty.

“Congratulations to your organization and specifically to your service team for achieving Lenovo’s Outstanding Service Award status for fiscal year 2022!”  Victoria Pawelkowski, Sr. Warranty Channels Manager of Lenovo North America, wrote in her most recent letter to the school that accompanied the plaque.

“Technology is just a tool. In terms of getting the kids working together and motivating them, the teacher is the most important.”

  • Bill Gates

Our students, faculty, and staff rely on technology, in and out of the classroom.  Our Technology department takes great pride in ensuring they remain consistently operational, in a safe and secure environment.

While the Technology Department works diligently to to keep everything up and running, our faculty leverages technology as a tool in the classroom.

Not all students learn and retain information in the same way or at the same speed. Technology is an opportunity for teachers to differentiate instruction to modify information for the appropriate learning capabilities of their students. The use of technology can also allow students to work at their own pace.

Technology has become its own form of literacy because of how often it is used in everyday life. Many careers use at least one aspect of Microsoft Office or Google Apps daily: balancing budgets on spreadsheets, creating slide shows to be presented, or sharing documents to collaborate on important information. Allowing students to learn and refine these skills prepares them for life beyond the classroom.
