ES at Exam Time

The Educational Services Program, often referred to as ES, was established so that each student has the opportunity to develop her full academic potential. ES serves students with documented learning disabilities, AD/HD, and other health impairments by providing accommodations identified in the student’s educational evaluation, service plan or IEP.

Students in the ES program take their exams and standardized tests in the ES classrooms.  A personalized exam schedule detailing where to go and the time of each exam is made for each student. In order to receive any extended time that one needs, an exam may start as early as 8am, and a student may need to stay after the rest of the school is dismissed to finish an exam.

While discussing exams, it is important to remember that those last few days before the end of the semester can be very stressful.  One way that helps to ease the stress is a quick visit with the SUA therapy dogs, Angelo and Ginger, who are often found in Mrs. Balz’s ES classroom. At home, parents can help support their students by: encouraging effective time management the week prior to the break, providing a good study space, and in some cases, offering to help the students study (i.e. quizzing them on their flashcards)
